Description
The thatched summerhouse, built around 1929, is located approximately 40 meters west of Great Rissington Manor. It was constructed for Major W.J.P. Marling and is likely designed by the architectural firm Falconer, Baker and Campbell. The building features coursed squared and dressed limestone with dressed stone quoins, while the upper part of the structure is timber-framed. The ground floor has a square plan, and the timber-framed upper section is circular, supported by moulded stone corbels that project southward over the square lower section.
Access is provided by four stone steps leading up to an early 20th-century plank door with strap hinges, which is flanked by single timber-framed panes that feature curved decorative bracing. The side walls of the circular upper part consist of metal casements with large leaded panes. Additionally, there is a plank door set back within a pointed dressed stone reveal on the west side, which opens onto the lower terrace. The summerhouse is topped with a conical thatched roof, adorned with a weathervane shaped like a leaping fish at the apex. The interior has not been inspected. This summerhouse is part of a group of garden buildings and features from the same period.
