Description

SEZINCOTE SEZINCOTE PARK SP 13 SE 4/117 Temple to Surya and circular pool in gardens of Sezincote House GV II Temple to sun god Surya at NGR 1707 3126. Early C19; by Thomas Daniell for Sir Charles Cockerell. Limestone base surmounted by grey unpolished marble temple. 2 Coade stone models of Brahmin bulls either side of entrance dated London 1814. Rectangular stepped plinth rising up to small square temple with open front. 4 engaged square columns at corners with rosette decoration at top. Figure of god Surya in relief against rear wall with rosettes to either side the heads of 7 horses in relief below. Stepped pyramidal roof with finial. The temple stands in front of a circular pool with curving rockery to either side with 6 regularly spaced indentations. Large shells lie along margin of pool. Central projecting feature covered with foliage in centre of pool.
