Description
The bridge above the snake pool in the gardens of Sezincote House was built between 1800 and 1805 by Thomas Daniell for Sir Charles Cockerell. It is constructed of ashlar limestone with brick vaulting and features cast iron trellis work. The facade of the bridge curves inward and spans three bays over the stream. It is supported by two rows of four octagonal columns with square bases and capitals, flanked by two rows of similar engaged columns. Under the center of the bridge, there is a stone bench and stepping stones. The stone parapet includes cast-iron trellis work panels arranged in a semi-circle, and a pair of cast iron model Brahmin bulls are symmetrically placed towards the center of the parapet. Additionally, lotus flower type finials adorn the piers of the parapet on either side.
