Description

Old Timbers is a house located at the end of a row in Northleach, dating from the 16th century. The building features coursed squared and dressed limestone, with a close-studded timber-framed cross wing that has pebble-dashed infill. It has a concrete tile roof and a 20th-century stone stack. The plan is 'L'-shaped, with a jettied cross wing, and there is a 20th-century extension at the rear that is not of special interest.

The facade has two windows, with a jettied gable that faces forward on the left. There are traces of several blocked openings in the stonework of the front wall. The ground floor has two 20th-century wood casements with glazing bars. To the left of the right-hand window, there is a moulded stone that resembles an image bracket, which is probably reused. A similar casement is found in the jettied gable, and another moulded stone resembling an image bracket is located to the left of the window lighting the right-hand bay. The building has a gable-end stack.

Inside, the house features exposed tie beams with deep flat-chamfers, an open fireplace with a curved bressumer beam, and stone corbels from the wall that divides Old Timbers from The Old Coach House. There is also a stone spiral staircase, with a window lighting the stair that was inserted in the 20th century, and remains of curved windbracing within the roof.
