Description
The barn at Tarlton Farm is a large structure built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed from random coursed rubble stone with flush quoins and features a stone slate roof, along with a slate roof on a two-bay shelter located in the southeast corner.
On the south side, there is a prominent central hipped cart entry that projects outward and was formerly topped with a lantern. This entry has a renewed timber lintel and double doors. To the left, there is another doorway with a timber lintel. The north side has a gabled cart entry opposite the south entry, also featuring a timber lintel and renewed timber double doors. To the right of this entry, there is a large lean-to, while a smaller lean-to with a corrugated-iron roof is situated to the left. Both entries have a depressed arch at the wall plane.
The barn consists of seven bays supported by collar and tie beam trusses. There is a loft door on the west end and a pitch hole on the east, along with scattered slit vents throughout the structure.
