Description
The Baldwin Memorial, located about 8 meters southeast of the south transept in the churchyard of the Church of St. Kenelm, is a chest tomb commemorating William Baldwin, who died in 1677. It is made of limestone and features a flat top, a chamfered plinth, and a moulded capping. The tomb has heavy lyre ends with intricate carvings, including a cartouche on the east side and flowers surrounding a cherub holding a book on the west side. The long sides of the tomb have a plain inscription panel on the south and an oblong panel on the north, which is adorned with a festoon and three cherub heads above, along with spiral foliage designs and an entwined hourglass motif on the right. The carving is of high quality. At the time of the survey in September 1984, the tomb was noted to be sinking to the south.
