Description
This is a dovecote located approximately 10 metres northwest of The Pines in Southrop, dating from the early 17th century with alterations from the early 19th century. It is constructed of random rubble limestone and features a stone slate roof. The dovecote is square in shape and has roll moulded parapet gables on each side, which were formerly topped with finials, and has stepped bedding to the coping. A central gabled timber lantern is present, and stone slates project between the lower ends of the gables to direct rainwater away. On the southeast side, there is a doorway with a chamfered opening and a plank door, along with a round arched fixed-light window in the gable apex above. The interior has not been inspected. This dovecote is associated with a house called The Greys, which was renamed The Pines after the main part of the building was demolished.
