Description
The barn and horse engine house at Star Farm, located adjacent to the farmhouse to the south, date from the early 18th century for the barn and the 19th century for the horse engine house. The structure is built of rubble stone and features a Cotswold stone slate roof. The barn consists of five bays with a central opposed cart entry that projects on both sides. The first two bays on the north side are separated by a stone wall, followed by two tie beam trusses with diagonal cross-braced struts. The horse engine house is situated in the southeast corner and has a curved outer wall. There are lean-to structures attached to the barn on the northeast and southwest sides. A raised and coped verge distinguishes the barn from the roof line of the house at the north end. The south gable end includes an owl hole and a blocked pitch hole below. This building is included for its group value with the Star Farmhouse.
