Description
The Talbot Hotel, which includes rear extensions, is a building that consists of two parts. The left section dates from the 18th century but was refronted around 1840. It features ashlar stonework, a parapet, and a Cotswold stone roof. This part has three storeys with three windows, including 19th-century sashes, with 16-pane windows on the ground floor. The segmental window hoods are joined to create a continuous string course over each floor. The front of this section is slightly set forward from the main building, and there is a very narrow sash window on each floor at the sides. It has end stacks.
The right section is from the mid-18th century and was altered in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with a Cotswold stone roof. This part also has three storeys but features two windows, with 19th-century flush framed sashes and 16-pane windows on the ground floor. There is a plain doorway to the left.
At the rear, there are two series of extensions of varying heights, with the eastern one ending in a stable wing that faces Sheep Street. The mid-19th-century remodelling likely occurred because this building served as the Corn Exchange, as indicated by the brass letter-box.
