Description

Numbers 7 and 9 are a pair of semi-detached villas, now converted into flats, built between 1820 and 1850. They feature stucco over brick with a concealed roof and a renewed brick party-wall stack. The properties are complemented by iron railings and balconies, as well as an ashlar pier at the left side.

The exterior consists of two storeys with attics and a basement, displaying a symmetrical arrangement of windows with one central and four flanking first-floor windows. The end entrance sections are set back, with additional service ranges positioned further back at each end. Architectural details include tall pilaster strips and a frieze around the end windows of the main range, which also has a continuous frieze and a low parapet raised over the end windows. The end ranges feature pilaster strips beside the first-floor windows. The windows throughout are 6/6 sashes, with the ground floor windows being taller, all set in plain reveals with sills. The attics, which are set back over the end ranges, have casement windows, and there are also casements in the basement.

Access to the end entrances is via flights of steps leading to five-panel doors, with the upper panels raised and fielded and the lower panels featuring fluted surrounds. The sidelights and fanlights above the doors are decorative, with the left door showcasing a batwing and circle motif, while the right door has radial glazing.

The subsidiary features include reset arrowhead forecourt railings with anthemion finials on the stanchions. The individual balconies on the ground floor have a lattice motif on the left and a scrolled lozenge design on the right. The area railings and gate adjacent to the service range on the right have acorn finials and ramp up to the pier, which is square in plan with a chamfered plinth, a shaft with chamfered angles, a frieze, and a peaked cap.
