Description
The boundary wall, gates, and gate piers located to the north and west of the Church of St Gregory were built around 1854-1857, likely designed by architect Charles Hansom. The wall extends from The Old Priory at 70 Clarence Street to No. 10 St James's Square. It is constructed of dressed stone over brick and features iron gates. The low wall, approximately 1 meter high, has chamfered capping and flush piers placed at regular intervals. The gate piers to the north are substantial and topped with cross capping, while the gates are highly decorative, featuring gilt flowers and other embellishments, separated from the piers by iron panels and pierced hinge posts. The gate piers to the west include lamp holders, and the ornate wrought-iron gates display the word 'PAX' in the central panel of each gate. The structure adjoins the piers and gate of The Old Priory at 70 Clarence Street.
