Description
This is a house and associated railings, built around 1826-32 and altered in the 1980s, including a lowering of the roof. The house is constructed of stucco over brick, with a slate roof. It also features a wrought-iron verandah and railings. The plan is of a double-depth layout, with a double-pitch roof and a central hallway.
The exterior is three storeys high, with three first-floor windows and two-storey sections set back on either side. Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication to the ground floor and bands on the first and second floors. The ground and first floors have 6/6 sash windows, taller in the main section; the second floor has 3/3 sashes. All windows are in plain reveals with sills. The basement has 20th-century windows. The central entrance has steps leading to a five-panel door with sidelights and an elliptical fanlight featuring a batwing and circle design. The side wings have a low parapet that ramps upwards to the main section. Two gables remain on the right return, though the roof has been lowered. The rear of the house retains 6/6 sash windows and a tripartite 6/6 window between two 2/2 sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
The attached railings features a long verandah with a trellis pattern, a border of circles, and uprights with a quatrefoil motif. The area railings have a scrolled lozenge motif. Other railings and gates display an anthemion motif, with arrowhead railings on either side of the steps.
