Description

The Grove House is a house built in 1763 and extended in 1784, located on London Road in Charlton Kings. It was constructed for Richard Haynes, as indicated by the date on the north stack, likely upgrading an earlier house. The building features a stucco exterior over brick with applied timbering added after 1878 and has a tiled roof with end stacks.

The house is three storeys high and has three first-floor windows. The main garden facade includes eight-over-eight outer sashes in flush frames, a six-over-six sash window in the centre of the first floor, a central blind window on the second floor, and a central glazed door on the ground floor. The main entrance, located on the right return, consists of a six-panel door with sidelights that have glazing bars. There is also an extension at the rear.

The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the house was extended after Haynes's second marriage in 1784 and was purchased in 1829 by Robert Smirke for his wife's sisters.
