Description

No. 2 Reservoir is an underground reservoir built in 1839 for the Cheltenham Water Works Company, designed by civil engineer James Walker. It has a capacity of 2 million gallons and is constructed from red brick made from clay excavated on the site, with a brick access chamber on the surface.

The reservoir is entirely underground, measuring 53.6 meters by 49.4 meters, with an internal height of 6 meters. It consists of seven parallel rectangular chambers featuring brick walls, shallow inverted-arched brick floors, and brick barrel-vaulted roofs. Each of the internal walls has seven arched openings that allow water to flow between the chambers.
