Description
Old Ham Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with an early to mid-19th century extension to the south and alterations made around 1892, which included a brick gable end to the central projection. The original section is timber-framed and partly brick fronted, while the 1830s extension is rendered and has a slate roof.
The exterior features one storey with an attic for the original part, and the 19th century section has two storeys and a one-window range. There is a two-bay central gabled projection that is timber-framed, with one door and irregularly placed windows. To the right of this projection, there is a through passage door and a brick-fronted two-bay wing. The roof includes two gabled dormers with barge-boards and finials, and the 1830s part has sash windows.
Inside, some features have been noted to survive, including a large chimney, diagonal stop-chamfered spine beams, and a former newel stair cupboard. The projecting east wing has posts with shields carved on them, serving as capitals or 'jowls'.
