Description

A terrace of three houses, Wellesley House, Daylesford House, and Beckaford House, built between 1838 and 1839, with Wellesley House added in 1840. The houses are constructed with stucco over brick, and feature concealed roof, end and party-wall brick and stucco stacks and wrought-iron features. They are arranged with a double-depth plan and side hallways.

The external appearance is of three storeys with a basement, encompassing nine first-floor windows (three per house). Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication to the ground floor, drawn into voussoirs over openings, and elliptically-arched recesses to windows. A crowning entablature and blocking course are present. The windows are 6/6 sashes throughout, taller to the first floor, set in plain reveals with sills, and most have blind boxes. The basement windows are 8/8 sashes. The entrances are on the right, left and right sides, featuring flights of steps leading to 4-panel doors, which are partly glazed with sidelights and overlights that have margin-lights.

The interiors have not been inspected.

Subsidiary features include spearhead railings to the sides of the steps. A verandah is present on the right side, and a continuous balcony is on the left at the first floor. These wrought-iron elements incorporate a Carron Company single heart and anthemion motif; the verandah features scrolled lozenge designs with openwork friezes and tent roofs.

The listed buildings together form a strong group, arranged around a grassed central area.
