Description

14, 16, and 18 Winchcombe Street is a terrace of three houses that have been converted into shops with offices above. Built around 1820, the buildings feature ground-floor shop fronts from the 1970s. The exterior is finished in stucco over brick, with a concealed roof and brick stacks on the party walls, as well as wrought-iron balconies.

The terrace stands three storeys high and has six first-floor windows, with two for each house. Notable stucco details include Doric pilasters on the first and second floors, sunk panels at the ends and on the party walls, and a frieze and cornice topped with a blocking course. The windows are a mix of 6/6 and 2/2 horizontal-pane sashes, all set in plain reveals with sills; the first-floor windows are taller than those on the ground floor. The ground floor features glazed shop fronts, with the central and left entrances canted and all having glazed doors.

The interior has not been inspected. The terrace also includes continuous first-floor balconies on the centre and right sides, adorned with an elongated scroll motif, a lattice frieze, and panels featuring a lyre pattern and circular flowers. It is noted that the terrace may be depicted on the Post Office Map of 1820.
