Description
No. 168 High Street is a shop with accommodation above, dating from around 1800 to 1820, as indicated on the 1820 Post Office Map. The ground-floor shop front was altered in the 1980s. The building is constructed of stucco over brick, featuring a concealed roof and iron window guards.
It stands four storeys tall and has three first-floor windows. The stucco detailing includes incised arcading on the first floor, with an impost cornice and an incised anthemion design in between. The second and third floors have moulded sill bands, which are interrupted by the sills. The second floor also showcases incised 'Greek key' decoration around the windows. The first, second, and third floors are fitted with 6/6 sash windows, with the first-floor windows being taller, all set in plain reveals. The building has a low parapet with copings.
The interior has not been inspected. Notably, the first-floor features Carron Company window guards that display a double-heart-and-anthemion motif.
