Description
Two ranges of farm buildings form the north and west sides of the farmyard located to the north of Downhouse. These buildings date from the early 19th century and are likely contemporary with the farmhouse that sits on the south side of the yard. They are constructed from stone rubble that was once limewashed and feature corrugated asbestos roofs.
The range on the west side includes a shippon with a loft above, while the north side contains a threshing barn. The entrances to the shippon are marked by flat stone arches. The threshing barn has a large entrance that is sheltered by a slate canopy supported by timber brackets, and it features pigeon holes with flight ledges. This farmyard is notably small and is associated with the nearby farmhouse, contributing to an attractive group of buildings. The site is included for its group value with Downhouse.
