Description

This is an early 19th-century farmhouse. It’s constructed of stone rubble, with some areas slate-hung, colourwashed, and rendered. The roof is slate, with gabled ends and brick stacks. The plan is unusual for the period, comprising a main range of two rooms and a wide passage, single depth. The partition to one side of the passage was removed, with gable end stacks and a gabled front projection containing the staircase. The main range is extended at both ends by symmetrical L-shaped wings under a slightly lower roof line, which are heated at their outer gables. The wings appear to be contemporary with the main range.

The front is symmetrical, having five bays, the wings being slightly narrower than the three-bay main range, which is slate-hung on the first floor. A front door is located on the left return of the gabled projection. Most of the 19th-century windows remain. The ground floor on the left has a two-light casement with eight panes per light. On the right-hand side, a four-pane horned sash and a two-light casement with four panes per light, under a segmental head, have replaced the original windows. The first-floor window on the left is a two-light sliding sash with six panes per light; the remaining first-floor windows are two-light casements with six panes per light. The gabled projection has a single-light stair window with six panes.

The rear elevation, facing the farmyard, retains most of the original 19th-century casements with glazing bars, except for one casement replaced by a four-pane horned sash. The interior features a contemporary early 19th-century staircase with stick balusters. This is an attractive small early 19th-century farmhouse with an unusual plan.
