Description

A pair of attached properties dating from the early to mid-19th century, located in Tavistock. The buildings are constructed from local rubble, with a stucco finish to the front and slate hanging to the rear, topped with a slate roof and a brick end stack. The layout is L-shaped, with a rear left range. The three-storey, four-window elevation facing West Street features 3/6-pane sashes over plate-glass sashes. A late 19th or early 20th century shop front with panelled and half-glazed double doors is on the left, while an earlier 19th century six-panelled door, set in panelled reveals, is on the right. The rear elevation has 3/6 sashes over 6/6-pane sashes, and a wrought-iron balcony above the basement. The rear wing includes glazing bar casements and a hipped roof dormer. The interior has been substantially remodelled, resulting in the loss of most original features. The buildings are included in the listing primarily for their contribution to the appearance of a group of similar listed properties on the south side of West Street.
