Description

The Still House and Abbey Wall is a medieval structure located in the southeast corner of the Vicarage garden. The 'Still House' is a small square tower, approximately 20 feet tall, constructed from granite. It features a crenellated parapet and windows with four-centred arches, hood moulding, and spandrels, including one window with a cinquefoil design facing the River Tavy. Adjacent to the tower is a length of wall that follows the line of the river and originally marked the southern boundary of the Abbey precincts. This crenellated wall stands about 14 feet high and is also made of granite, incorporating a pointed arched granite doorway. The site is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
