Description

Langmead Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It features rendered cob walls and a gable-ended asbestos slate roof. There are brick shafts at each gable end, with the right-hand one sitting on a projecting stone base. A notable feature is the good axial granite ashlar stack, which has a drip mould and a drip course at the rim.

The building has a 3-room and through passage plan, with the lower end to the left. The internal partitions have been somewhat altered in the 20th century. The hall stack backs onto the passage, and the inner and lower room stacks were likely added later.

The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with four windows, consisting of two and three-light 20th-century casements without glazing bars. There is a 20th-century block-wood door at the centre, situated behind a 20th-century open-fronted gabled wooden porch. Additionally, there is an early 20th-century plank door at the right-hand end, also under a similar porch.

Inside, the right-hand room features a chamfered cross beam with jewel stops, while the hall contains two chamfered beams with no visible stops. The roof timbers appear to be replacements, with only the insubstantial feet of straight principals visible on the first floor.
