Description

This is a memorial stone located in the churchyard, about 3 meters north of the east churchyard gate. It is probably from the 7th century and features a standing stone with an inscription running vertically down its surface in Insular Majuscule lettering. The inscription has been variously interpreted as "GURGLES," "GUNGLEI," "GOMGEL," or "GUNGLEL," according to Susan M. Pearce in her work "The Kingdom of Dumnonia" published in 1978.
