Description

New Hall, dated 1860, is a gift from the Seventh Duke of Bedford. This asymmetrical building is constructed from Hurdwick stone with granite dressings and features a Perpendicular style slate roof with four gabled dormers. It has two to three storeys and a crenellated parapet, along with clustered stone chimneystacks. The façade consists of five bays with four-centred arched windows and a central oriel. A tower located to the south-west of this Guildhall has a hammer-beam type roof and a gallery. New Hall is part of the mid-19th century improvements to the centre of Tavistock, associated with the Bedford Estate.
