Description

This building, located about 20 meters northeast of Thorndon House, is a disused house dating from the 17th century with 19th-century alterations. It features plastered cob on stone rubble footings and has slate roofs that are gabled at the ends, with a history of thatching. There is a projecting stone stack at the left gable end and an axial stone stack.

The house has a three-room layout with a through passage. The hall stack backs onto the passage, with a heated lower end room and an unheated inner room. An addition at the higher end may have originally been a farm building, which has since been converted for accommodation on the first floor. The eaves of the higher end and passage were raised, likely during the 19th century when a staircase was added in the passage. A rear lean-to is constructed from concrete blocks.

The building is two storeys tall and has an asymmetrical three-window front, with the left-hand side (lower end) under a slightly lower roofline. There is a plank and stud door at the front leading into the passage, and another entrance on the right side leading into the inner room. The windows are 19th-century casements with two and three lights and glazing bars, although some glazing is missing.

Inside, the hall features two chamfered cross beams with ogee stops and a large open fireplace. The roof space has not been inspected.
