Description
Ashmill Bridge is a road bridge over the River Carey, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and features two spans, a tall cutwater, a small flood span, and stone rubble parapets. The bridge has slightly recessed segmental arch rings with keystones that spring from plain imposts. At the west end, the parapets have been rebuilt, while at the east end, the capping of stones laid on edge is visible beneath 20th-century concrete capping. The bridge may be located on the site of "Essewater" bridge, to which Bishop Stapeldon bequeathed 1 mark in 1326.
