Description

The Town Farmhouse dates from the mid-17th century, with an early 18th-century addition at the rear and 19th-century replacement windows. Later in the 19th century, the interior was rearranged. It is constructed of rendered and whitewashed stone with a bitumenised slate roof and brick chimney shafts. The original plan comprised two rooms and a through passage, with a hall to the left and a kitchen to the right. In the 19th century, the through-passage was widened to form the hall, and a staircase was inserted. An early 18th-century wing was added at the rear, with a further early 19th-century dairy built to the right.

The front elevation has two storeys and three windows. The first floor has 2-light casements with glazing bars. The ground floor has 20-pane double-hung sash windows. A half-glazed door is set within a central gabled porch, dated to the early 19th century. A rear wing to the right has 19th-century casements.

Inside, the ground floor kitchen retains two cross-beams, one chamfered with ogee stops, the other plastered. A recess to the right of the fireplace likely held the original staircase. The hall has a 19th-century staircase. To the left is a parlour with an ovolo-moulded cross-beam with an ogee stop and a preceding fillet; the fireplace has been altered. The rear wing contains fitted benches on three sides, forming a table. On the first floor, over the parlour, is a mid-17th century cupboard with two doors, likely leading to a hanging cupboard with mannerist panelling and two drawers, originally intended for clothing.
