Description

The Coach House and Old Stables, located about 25 meters northwest of The Glebe House, are stables and a coach house that have been converted into holiday flats. They date from around 1840 and were converted in the 1980s. The building features a random rubble facade with brick returns and slate roofs that are steeply pitched over a loggia, which has overhanging eaves and sprockets. There are remnants of a stone stack at the center of the south range. The structure is L-shaped, consisting of two parallel ranges facing east, linked by a two-bay loggia, with the south range (formerly the coach house) being the longer of the two.

On the east front, there are one and a half storey gable ends flanking a single storey loggia, arranged in a 1:2:1 bay pattern. The stone windows are mullioned and transomed, set under hoodmoulds, with PVC casements. The ground floor features two windows on the left and fine double carriageway doors on the right, which have ornamental studding and fleur de lys hinges, also under hoodmoulds. The loggia includes a central Doric column made of granite, a patterned pebble pavement, and segmental headed openings with studded doors in the re-entrant angles.

The south front has four bays, all featuring late 20th-century windows. The first floor windows are two-light and project slightly through the eaves, with an octagonal stairlight window above the entrance in the second bay from the left. The ground floor includes a three-light casement to the left of the entrance and two two-light casements to the right, along with a plank door. The interiors have not been seen. The original single storey stable range on the north side of the courtyard and another range to the west have been extensively altered in the late 20th century and are not of special interest. The building is listed primarily for its group value with The Glebe House.
