Description
Barleyhayes Cottage is a mid-17th century cottage that has been altered in the 20th century. It features rendered cob walls and a gable-ended thatch roof, with a rendered rubble stack that has dripcourses at the right gable end. Originally designed with a two-room plan, the internal partition has been removed, leaving a larger heated room to the right, which has a 19th-century staircase added at the rear. The cottage is two storeys high and has a regular two-window front, with 20th-century casements—two-light on the first floor and three-light below. A central 20th-century stable-type door is located under a thatched doorhood. Inside, there are rough chamfered cross beams, and the fireplace features an ovolo-moulded wooden lintel with run-out stops.
