Description
The Market Cross is a mid-19th century sandstone ashlar monument located in The Square, Holsworthy. It features a square design with recessed panels on each side, each adorned with five-cusped heads. The cross has diagonal hollow mould cornices and is set on a moulded plinth that rests on two octagonal steps. Above the moulded cornice, there is a truncated pinnacle with crocketted corners, along with small diagonal pinnacles at the corners; two of these are complete, while one lacks cresting and another is merely a stump. There are no inscriptions or dates on the monument, leading to the assumption that it is a 19th-century replacement of a medieval original. The Square continues to serve as a venue for weekly markets.
