ST GILES ST GILES IN THE WOOD SS 53 18 IN THE WOOD 18/240 Cooke headstone approximately 33 - metres south-south-west of the tower of the Church of St Giles

GV II

Headstone. Dated 1777 in memory of Michael Cooke. Slate. Upright square-headed slab standing approximately 500 millimetres high. The top corners are carved with scrolled decoration. The first word of the inscription is in ornamental italic lettering, the rest is Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. It records the death of Michael Cooke in 1777. This stone has been moved to here.
