Description
15 Meeting Street is a house that likely started as a wing of the adjoining house at No. 12 Meeting Street. It dates from the early 18th century and has been altered in the 20th century. The building is made of stuccoed stone and features a scantle slate roof with both gabled and hipped ends, along with a brick axial stack at the rear.
The house has a one-room plan with a later direct entry through a late 20th-century porch on the right side. It stands three storeys tall and has an asymmetrical west front with three windows. The windows are early 20th-century sashes with margin panes. The porch is a more recent addition, and the house is adjacent to the rear of No. 12 Meeting Street on the left.
Inside, the ground and first floors boast moulded rib plaster ceilings; the ground floor features a quatrefoil design, while the first floor has an oval shape with a small foliated boss and a cyma moulded cornice. There is a 20th-century partition on the first floor that includes an 18th-century fielded two-panel door and a blocked doorway on the north side, which has a small section of fielded panelling. The second floor contains a small chimneypiece with a cyma moulded shelf and an iron grate, along with a later staircase on the south side. This house is an interesting example of early 18th-century architecture, particularly noted for its moulded plaster ceilings, and is located in the centre of Appledore.
