WEST PUTFORD CP Cory Barton

II Farmhouse. C17, possibly earlier, reroofed late C20. Random rubble, concrete tiles formerly thatched, external stacks gable ends, large stone stack right, C19 brick between second and third bays left and left gable end.

Plan: three-cell and cross passage with wide stair between cross passage and kitchen, unusually wide and long building, single storey lean-to at rear. Two storeys, seven bays, all two-light casements, much decayed end two bays left, except for C20 three-light casement end bay right, ground floor eight-pane casement under wooden lintel -end bay left, shallow buttress adjoining right, concrete lintel and sill with C20 four-light casement, similar opening to C20 single light window beside gabled porch, plank door, small window opening to right in partly rebuilt wall, three-light light C20 end bay with evidence of more rebuilding to wall.

Interior: fireplaces blocked, C18 door opening out of kitchen into yard, another C18 door to cupboard in kitchen, otherwise no dateable features on ground floor, upper storey not seen. Undoubtedly pre-C18 in part but lacking dateable features. Believed by some to pre-date Cory Manor (qv) and to be the site of the original manor house.
