Description
Bovey Bridge is a bridge over the River Bovey located at the south-west end of Fore Street in Bovey Tracey. It was probably built in 1642, as indicated by a datestone, and was widened in 1852. The structure is made of stone, with parts of it being rubble and parts ashlar, and features a steel footbridge added on the north-west side. The bridge consists of two segmental arches, with a central pier that has cutwaters on each side. The south-east side has a parapet with coping that extends around the cutwater to create a refuge. The north-west parapet, which has been rebuilt, includes two re-set datestones inscribed with the year 1642. The north-west half of the bridge, including the cutwater, is constructed of ashlar, while the south-east half is primarily made of rubble, with ashlar abutments and cutwater.
