Description
Chasers is a house, partly converted to a restaurant, likely dating from the 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of whitewashed rendered cob and stone rubble, topped with a thatched roof that is gabled at the right end and hipped at the left end. It features a right end stack and a rear lateral stack. The layout is a single depth plan, which may have originally been a three-room and passage arrangement, but the extent of the late 20th century interior changes makes this difficult to confirm. The left end of the building has been converted from a farmbuilding.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical window arrangement of two windows on the left and four on the right, reflecting its former use as a farmbuilding. There is a 20th-century front door located to the right of centre, which is sheltered by a thatched porch supported by posts. To the right of the door is a canted bay window, and to the left, there is a single-storey lean-to addition. The windows are a mix of 19th and 20th-century timber casements, with 20th-century windows in the converted farmbuilding section.
Inside, the building has been modernized, with original partitions removed or altered on the ground floor. Some chamfered crossbeams remain, but these are likely 20th-century replacements. The roof has not been inspected but may hold interest. Despite the late 20th-century alterations, this building is significant for its group value at the end of the village.
