Description
The building is a school, likely constructed in the 1870s. It is built of red sandstone with yellow brick dressings and has an asbestos slate roof with gabled ends and a stack with a brick shaft. The design incorporates modest Gothic detailing. The original plan comprised two classrooms arranged at right angles, with a smaller classroom projecting to the front, flanked by lean-tos. The single-story asymmetrical front elevation features a gable end to the smaller classroom, ornamented with cusped bargeboards that have trefoil piercings, and a depressed two-centred arched window with two transoms, glazing bars, and a stone sill. A slit window is also present in the gable. The lean-to to the right is slightly set back, with bargeboards and a blocked depressed two-centred arched doorway. A similar lean-to to the left is also set back, featuring a depressed two-centred doorway. Both lean-tos have small square windows on their returns. The rear classroom has transomed depressed two-centred arched windows. This is an attractive school building from the late 19th century.
