Description
The Ley Arms is a public house with origins dating back to the 17th century, which underwent significant remodeling and extension in the 20th century after a fire in the 1980s. The building features whitewashed rendered cob and stone rubble, topped with a thatched roof that is gabled at both ends. Originally, it likely had a two-room layout with a through passage and heated rooms on either side. The structure has been extended at both ends, including a one-room addition at the right end and a long, single-storey thatched addition at the left end from the late 20th century. There is also a single-storey wing at the rear right with a flat roof.
The exterior is two storeys high and presents an asymmetrical façade with four windows on one side and one window on the right end addition, along with a front door located to the left of centre. The windows are 20th-century timber small pane casements. The rear elevation includes casement windows and one 20th-century bow window. Inside, the left end fireplace features sandstone jambs and a timber lintel with scroll stops, while the right end fireplace has a brick and iron lintel. The exposed carpentry is from the 20th century. A view of Kenn from 1795 by Swete depicts one end of the building.
