Description
The Cider House and adjoining cob walls, located about 10 metres south of Dent House, are likely from the early 19th century. The structure features colourwashed rendered stone with cob below the eaves and a hipped slate roof. The cider house has a rectangular plan and includes an apple loft at the north end. Inside, there is a large apple crusher and a cider press that is still in working order at the south end. Access to the apple loft is available from the first floor, which is reached from the road.
On the exterior, the west elevation facing the road has a first floor doorway on the right with a plank door that has strap hinges. The north end, which faces Dent House, also has a plank door with strap hinges. The east elevation features two first floor windows and two ground floor windows, although the ground floor window on the right is blocked. Inside, the cider press is located at the north end and remains operational, with an intact chute leading from the apple loft. The apple crusher, equipped with gearing for a donkey or horse, is situated at the south end. The roof consists of 19th century king post and strut trusses. The tall cob walls that adjoin the cider house extend along the road. This building has group value with Dent House and the threshing barn.
