Description

This chest tomb, dating from the early to mid 19th century, is located about 9 meters east of the chancel of the Church of St Mary on Ideford Church Road. It is made of low freestone and features an oversailing lid, although the inscription and date are illegible. The tomb is surrounded by iron railings with a round section, topped with vase-shaped finials, and the corner rails have more elaborate finials. This is an unusual example in the region of a chest tomb that is complete with railings.
