Description

This K6 telephone kiosk was built to a standardised design. It is constructed of cast iron and is painted red overall, with long horizontal glazing in the door and sides. The crowns on the top panels are applied, rather than perforated, a detail characteristic of some K6 designs. Rectangular white display signs reading "TELEPHONE" are positioned beneath the shallow curved roof. Modern telecommunications equipment is housed inside. The kiosk occupies a prominent position along the main road through Lower Ashton, Devon. It stands beside the Grade II listed Post Office and adjacent to a modern post box fixed to a timber post. It is situated approximately 42 metres southwest of Manor Cottage (also Grade II) and opposite Forge Cottage (Grade II). The K6’s group value and its visual relationship with these listed buildings are significant, and it is also located within the Lower Ashton Conservation Area.
