Description
Starcross School House is a house that was formerly the school master's residence, built in the 1860s. It is constructed of grey limestone rubble with red brick dressings and features a slate roof that is gabled at both ends with deep eaves. The building has end stacks with brick shafts, although the left end stack has a dismantled shaft. The architectural style is Gothic.
The plan is in an L shape, with two blocks that are roofed at right angles to each other, and there is an entrance located in the angle between the blocks. The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with one window on the left and one on the right. The left side has a gabled front, while the right side is set back and includes a gabled dormer. There is a lean-to porch hood at the entrance, supported by timber shaped brackets. The front door is a 19th-century half-glazed design, and there are 19th-century two- and three-light transomed windows featuring depressed two-centred arch timber casements.
The interior has not been inspected. The building has group value with the Church of St Pauls and Starcross Primary School.
