Description

The wall with an arch adjoining Union Bridge in Newton Abbot is a Grade II listed structure. The medieval arch is made of granite or hard sandstone, while the rubblestone wall dates from the 19th century and has had repairs made in the 20th century. A small plaque located to the north of the bridge's parapet indicates that the walls along the River Lemon were raised in 1982. The arch, which is now blocked, is set in a wall that extends approximately 20 meters southeast of the bridge. It features a shallow pointed arch and shallow moulding.
