Description
7 and 9 Bank Street are two houses that have been converted into ground-floor shops. They date from the early 18th century but were refronted and remodeled in the early 19th century. The buildings are finished in painted stucco and feature a steeply-pitched slate roof with a 20th-century brick chimney on the right side. The layout is double-depth, with 20th-century additions at the rear and one single-depth room above a flat carriage arch on the right.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a window arrangement of 1:2:1, with a canted section on the left for No. 7 and a former carriage entry to the right for the early 19th-century extension. There is an eaves band and banded quoin detailing to the right of the main block. The windows are 8/8-pane sash types set in forward frames, with two on the main block and a wide space to the right indicating the position of the chimney.
Inside, the early 19th-century alterations are evident. The first-floor front rooms still have reeded and coved cornicing and six-panelled doors. Access to the roof space is not available.
