Description

The Congregational Chapel, built around 1850-1860, features coursed limestone rubble walls that are battered at the bottom, with chamfered plaster quoins and Bath stone dressings. It has a steep pitched tarred slate roof and a rubble stack located at the axial point of the two blocks. The chapel has a parallel block plan, with the larger front block serving as the chapel and a possibly adjoining school room behind. It is a single-storey building with a symmetrical front that has five windows: two tall lancet windows with cusped heads set under steep gables, alternating with three 2-light windows featuring ogee heads. The right-hand gable end includes a steep gabled porch with a trefoil light on the side. The entrance consists of a two-centred arched doorway with a chamfered surround and a quatrefoil above. At the rear, there is a lower parallel block. The interior was not accessible during the survey. Additionally, there is a contemporary low limestone rubble wall next to the right-hand gable end, topped with iron railings. The square gate piers at the right-hand end have chamfered quoins and double chamfered capping with small finials. The gate has a chamfered plinth and is made of wrought iron, matching the railings.
