Description

Rock House is a house dating from around the 1840s and 1850s, built after the Tithe Map surveys. It has stuccoed walls and a slate roof with two rendered brick gable end stacks. The house follows a double-depth plan, featuring two main heated rooms on the front, one on either side of a central entrance hall. This hall leads to a narrow stairwell and then to a back door, with service rooms located at the rear.

The three-window front is symmetrical, incorporating original 12-pane hornless sash windows. The central entrance has a contemporary six-panelled door topped with a rectangular fanlight and a flat hood, embellished with a simple moulded cornice supported by heavy Doric columns. Inside, the original open-well staircase retains turned newels, stick balusters, and a curtail step.

Attached to the left end is a probable contemporary stable and linhay. The stable adjoins the house and features Gothic pointed doorways on either side of the front wall. Above the stable is a granary reached by stone steps on the rear courtyard side. Attached at right angles to the stable at the rear is an open-fronted linhay.
