Description

Tucketts is an 18th-century farmhouse, with a 17th-century rear wing. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble and cob. The front roof is hipped and thatched, with a gabled brick stack located externally to the right, and slate weatherings. The rear wing has a gable-ended roof covered in asbestos slates (laid in a diamond pattern) and an axial brick stack.

The original front section of the house was arranged with a central staircase and two rooms. The wing to the rear, originally comprising three rooms and a through-passage, was situated across the contour. The downhill end of this wing was demolished or incorporated into the 18th-century remodelling. An outshut continues from the old passage, forming an angle.

The south east front has a symmetrical three-window facade. A central doorway contains a panelled door, and there is a window above. The other windows are wider, and all have transomed casements which were inserted around 1920. The rear wing has older 19th-century two-light casements in an irregular arrangement. A 20th-century latticed lean-to porch has been added.

The interior of the 18th-century part of the house was modernised around 1920, but an open hearth with a reused lintel – originally from a cider barn – and the original roof structure with pegged collars still exist. Within the 17th-century wing, two oak crossbeams remain, along with a lintel with stepped stops and splayed monolith granite jambs to a fireplace that backs onto the original cross passage. A curved recess between the fireplace and window may have been built into a settle. Beyond the original hall is a formerly unheated inner room.
