Description

The Cofton War Memorial is a war memorial cross built in 1920 by Messrs. Knight and Sons, a masonry firm. It is made of coarsely dressed local granite and stands 2.85 meters tall. The memorial features a square base topped with a shaft and a wheel cross. Three sides of the base have smooth panels. The east face is inscribed with the text: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND TO THE/ IMMORTAL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF/ COFTON/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 - 1919/ MAY THEY REST IN PEACE." The north and south faces list the names, regiments, and years of death of the eleven fallen soldiers.
