Description

This headstone, dated 1728, is located approximately 2 metres to the east of the Parish Church of All Saints in Newton Abbot. It is made of white limestone and features primitive carving and lettering. At the top, there is an irregularly shaped incised face that is naively carved, with four lines on each side, dot eyes, a triangular nose, and a wide slit mouth. The inscription on the headstone reads: "HERE LYETH THE BODY OF ROBERT MAY WHO DIED JANUARY THE 10 1728 AGED 70Y HERE ALSO LYETH MARY MAY WIFE . . ."
