Description

A terrace of five houses, now largely converted into flats, was built in the mid-19th century as part of the Courtenay Park development, laid out in 1854. The houses are constructed of painted stucco with a continuous slate roof, featuring moulded stacks to the ends and between the properties. The terrace presents an eleven-window front, with the central three houses having a three-window front elevation and the terminal houses a single-window front. Originally, six forward-facing gables were adorned with timber finials and pendants, and the windows had label moulds; only numbers 25 and 26 retain these features. Numbers 25, 27, and 29 have large, stepped-forward gables, while numbers 26 and 28 have smaller gables within stepped-forward entrance ranges. The attics contain two-light windows, while the first and ground floors have two and three-light windows with timber mullions and transoms. The entrances to the end houses are located in the returns. Number 27 has a substantial porch dating from around 1860, featuring chamfered cross-bracing and fretted mouchettes, along with a similar front gate. Inside number 27, original features include panelled shutters, some four-panel doors, and a moulded cornice. Number 28 is now a dental surgery. The houses have double-depth plans with later rear additions.
